Supreme Court upholds bail cancellation for Goa nightclub fire accused

The Supreme Court of India has upheld a Bombay High Court order cancelling the bail of three co-owners involved in a fatal 2025 nightclub fire in Arpora, Goa. The owners, Saurabh Luthra, Gaurav Luthra, and Ajay Gupta, have been directed to surrender to authorities within two weeks.

The incident occurred on December 6, 2025, at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, resulting in 25 deaths and over 50 injuries. Investigations revealed that the club was operating without valid trade licenses or necessary safety approvals. The fire reportedly broke out during an indoor fire show conducted without adequate firefighting equipment or safety measures.

The Bombay High Court previously set aside the bail granted by a sessions court, noting that the trial court had failed to properly consider investigative materials regarding the unauthorized structure and the risks associated with the fire displays. The Supreme Court has also requested the trial court to expedite the proceedings and the framing of charges in the case.
