Supreme Court upholds FBR employees’ right to headquarters allowance

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed appeals filed by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) regarding the payment of headquarters allowances to its employees. The ruling upholds a previous decision by a services tribunal that favored more than 40 FBR employees seeking the allowance based on their time-scale appointments.

During the proceedings, FBR counsel argued that the allowance was intended for Grade-17 officers and that employees under the time-scale system were already receiving executive allowances. However, the Chief Justice noted that the provided summaries did not support the distinction claimed by the FBR. The court rejected the FBR’s appeals, leaving the tribunal’s decision in favor of the employees intact.
