Supreme Court upholds fine against Xunta over Negreira bullying case

The Supreme Court has upheld a ruling against the Xunta de Galicia, maintaining a 9,000 euro fine for the regional administration's insufficient response to a school bullying case in Negreira.

The high court dismissed an appeal by the Xunta, leaving in place a previous sentence from the High Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG). That ruling determined that the school's activated protocol failed to provide a “complete” or “sufficiently effective” response to the bullying experienced by a minor.

Evidence showed that while the educational center did activate a protocol, investigations concluded there were “insufficient indications” to initiate corrective procedures, despite records of physical aggression and mockery. Furthermore, the court noted a lack of psychological support for the student and a failure by the designated support official to perform their duties.
