Supreme Court upholds Telangana state title to 550 acres in Miyapur
The Supreme Court of India has dismissed private claims to 550 acres and 39 guntas of land in Miyapur, Telangana, upholding the state’s ownership. The ruling rejects appeals from individuals and housing societies, affirming a 2003 Andhra Pradesh High Court judgment that recognized the state’s title to the land in Survey Nos. 100 and 101.
The court found that the revenue entries relied upon by the claimants were fraudulent and could not establish ownership. The judgment noted that the land was classified as government poramboke as far back as a 1912 survey and that the abolition of jagirs in 1949 meant the land had statutorily vested in the state.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy welcomed the verdict, alleging that the land, valued at approximately Rs 55,000 crore, was the subject of an attempted grab by associates of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Reddy accused the previous administration of failing to defend the state’s claim and alleged that revenue records had been tampered with to facilitate the transfer of valuable properties.
