Supreme Federal Court security alert in Brasília after man throws backpack

A 28-year-old man was detained in Brasília on Thursday night after attempting to scale the security fences of the Supreme Federal Court (STF). During the incident, the individual threw a backpack onto the roof of a nearby bus stop, prompting authorities to activate 'Operação Petardo', a standard security protocol for suspected explosive devices.

The Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF) and the bomb squad were deployed to the scene, leading to the closure of several lanes on the Esplanada dos Ministérios and the restriction of pedestrian and vehicle access in the Praça dos Três Poderes. Following a forensic analysis by specialized teams, it was confirmed that the backpack contained only personal items and no explosives.

According to the STF, the movement was captured by the court's surveillance system, which immediately alerted the Judicial Police and the PMDF. The suspect reportedly resisted the approach and made 'reclamatory' statements. Officials confirmed that no ministers, including STF President Edson Fachin, were in the main building at the time of the occurrence. The incident took place just days before the first round of Brazil's presidential elections.
