Supreme Labor Council postpones worker wage adjustment decision
The 345th meeting of the Supreme Labor Council concluded without a decision regarding the increase or adjustment of workers' wages. Although a previous meeting in early September had scheduled a review of wages and the formation of a wage committee for that month, no changes to wages or benefits were implemented during the most recent session.
Discussions regarding wage adjustments have been driven by rising living costs and inflation of essential goods. Labor representatives have highlighted a significant gap between current wages and the cost of a basic livelihood basket. While the cost of this basket was estimated at approximately 42 million tomans in January 2025, labor advocates suggest current costs may be more than double that amount.
The council has pledged to revisit the issue of wage adjustment and the living conditions of workers in a subsequent meeting, which is expected to take place before the end of October.
