Sur Baher experiences fires following clashes with Israeli forces

Fires broke out at several commercial shops in the Palestinian village of Sur Baher on the southeastern outskirts of East Jerusalem following clashes between residents and Israeli forces. Palestinian officials reported that the use of tear gas and stun grenades by Israeli forces ignited the fires during the confrontation.

The unrest occurred amid heightened tensions in occupied East Jerusalem. Earlier on Sunday, Israeli forces and visitors entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound for religious activities ahead of Yom Kippur. Reports indicate that National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and other officials entered the compound, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited tunnels beneath East Jerusalem and participated in prayers at the Al-Buraq Wall.

In the Jordan Valley, the closure of the Tayasir and Ein Shibli checkpoints by Israeli forces prevented 104 Palestinian teachers from reaching their classrooms. Additionally, reports from Gaza highlighted significant destruction in Khan Younis, where university buildings and surrounding areas have been reduced to rubble.
