Surabaya authorities crack down on illegal karaoke stalls
The Surabaya Municipal Government is intensifying patrols and enforcement actions against establishments operating as karaoke venues under the guise of traditional stalls (warung). These activities are being targeted due to their potential to disturb public peace and order.
Acting Head of Surabaya Satpol PP, Irna Pawanti, noted that such establishments are still prevalent in several areas, including Batu-batu in the Kenjeran district of North Surabaya, as well as parts of East and West Surabaya. Authorities clarified that an establishment is deemed illegal if it involves the distribution of alcoholic beverages or produces loud music that disturbs the surrounding community.
Officials emphasized that the government does not prohibit small businesses from operating. Stalls that only sell coffee and adhere to local regulations without causing public disturbances are permitted to continue their operations.
