Surabaya authorities investigate alleged confinement of 10 domestic workers
Authorities in Surabaya, East Java, are investigating the alleged confinement of 10 prospective domestic workers at a recruitment facility located on Jalan Kedung Anyar. The incident came to light on Saturday, October 24, 2026, when two women from outside the city intercepted Satpol PP officers during a routine patrol to request assistance.
Following the report, the Surabaya City Government, including the Department of Industry and Manpower (Disperinaker) and Satpol PP, inspected the three-story facility. Officials noted that the business appeared to be operating without proper permits. The facility has since been sealed by Satpol PP.
The 10 individuals have been moved to a social services facility (Liponsos), and coordination with the East Java Social Services is underway to repatriate them to their home regions. The case is being handled through two channels: the police are investigating potential human trafficking (TPPO), while local government officials address the lack of business licensing.
