Surabaya authorities mandate safety measures for nightclubs

The Surabaya City Government has introduced new regulations requiring managers of general entertainment recreation venues, specifically discotheques and nightclubs, to provide safety facilities for intoxicated visitors. These measures aim to prevent traffic accidents caused by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Irna Pawanti, the Acting Head of the Surabaya Municipal Police (Satpol PP), entertainment venues must now provide dedicated rooms and access to medical personnel. Managers are also required to establish partnerships with clinics for medical emergencies and with online transportation providers to ensure intoxicated patrons do not drive themselves home.

Satpol PP has conducted four random inspections over the past month to verify compliance. Officials are checking for valid alcohol sale permits and signed commitment letters regarding these safety procedures. Additionally, regulations prohibit individuals under 18 from entering nightlife venues, while those under 21 are banned from consuming alcohol.
