Surabaya Corruption Trials Yield Verdicts and Ongoing Hearings

In Surabaya's Tipikor (anti‑corruption) court, a hearing on the Tanjung Perak port dredging project revealed that procurement was conducted in two negotiation rounds. Defendants said the first round failed, prompting a second round with revised price estimates after fuel price hikes. In a separate case, the same court sentenced three defendants – Moh Zainur Rosyid (Gus Rosyid), RM Khoirul Atho' Shah (Gus Atho), and Muhammad Miftahur Roziq – to one year in prison and a fine of Rp 50 million each for misusing a Rp 400 million provincial grant intended for a santri dormitory project. The court found the funds had been diverted to purchase land for a pesantren, but ruled the assets should remain with the institution rather than be seized as state compensation.
