Surabaya officials deny RSUD Eka Candrarini medical waste found in Sidoarjo

Surabaya city officials and health authorities have denied that medical waste found in a Sidoarjo water drainage system belongs to RSUD Eka Candrarini (EC). The discovery of discarded syringes and packaging bearing the hospital's name went viral on social media, prompting an investigation by the Surabaya Health Office, the Surabaya Environmental Agency, and Sidoarjo authorities.

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi and Health Office Head dr. Billy Daniel Messakh stated that the specific brand of syringes found in the drainage does not match any products procured or used by RSUD EC. Officials emphasized that the hospital follows strict medical waste management protocols, utilizing a third-party provider, PT Wastec International, to handle hazardous materials.

According to health officials, the hospital's procedure involves separating needles from disposables and placing them in specialized yellow containers to prevent injury. All medical waste transportation is recorded electronically via the Ministry of Environment and Forestry's Festronik system. Investigations are ongoing to determine the actual origin of the waste.
