Surabaya Mayor bans new discotheque and nightlife licenses

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi has announced a ban on the issuance of new licenses for discotheques and other nightlife entertainment venues in Surabaya. The decision aims to prevent the city from becoming a center for vice and to ensure urban growth aligns with public interest.

Currently, there are approximately 13 authorized discotheques operating in the city. The municipal government intends to strictly monitor existing establishments to ensure compliance with regulations. Specific enforcement measures include closing venues that allow minors to enter or those where patrons leave in a state of intoxication, as per existing agreements.

In addition to the ban on new licenses, the city government will evaluate existing nightlife applications based on spatial planning compliance, including urban planning certificates and building documentation. The policy is framed as a measure to protect children and maintain social order within the metropolitan area.
