Suraj Narredu becomes first Indian jockey to win in Japan

Suraj Narredu has become the first Indian jockey to secure a victory at the Japan Racing Association (JRA). Making his debut as part of the 2026 World All-Star Jockeys (WASJ) event, Narredu guided the three-year-old horse Fier Chanter to a win at Sapporo Racecourse.

Partnering Fier Chanter over 2,600 metres, Narredu secured the victory with a horse that was the sixth choice in the field. The win occurred during his second mount in Japan, competing alongside top riders from Australia, South Africa, France, Canada, and Japan.

Narredu, a four-time Indian Derby winner and former Champion Jockey of the Year, recently surpassed 2,500 career wins in India. This JRA victory marks a significant international milestone in his two-decade career.
