Suralis urges sewage system care ahead of heavy El Niño rains

Suralis has issued a call to action for the community to properly use sewage systems in anticipation of intense rainfall linked to the El Niño phenomenon. Meteorological projections from the Dirección Meteorológica de Chile (DMC) suggest that precipitation levels will be above normal for the remainder of winter and the beginning of spring, particularly in the central and south-central regions of the country.

Marcelo Cofré, Operations Manager at Suralis, stated that the company is increasing monitoring, crew availability, and response teams. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation to prevent network obstructions by advising against disposing of trash, oils, and wet wipes into the sewage system. Residents are also encouraged to report irregular rainwater connections or blocked manhole covers to help prevent infrastructure issues during heavy weather events.
