Surat Railway Station food stall closed after rat caught eating food

Railway authorities have shut down a food stall at Surat Railway Station after a passenger's video showed a rat eating a puff inside a glass display counter. The footage, recorded in the early hours of August 29, went viral on social media, raising significant concerns regarding food safety and hygiene standards at the station.

The outlet, identified as M/S Dinesh Associates Tea Stall, was immediately closed by Western Railway following the incident. The Railway Commercial Department has initiated proceedings against the operator, with authorities considering the permanent termination of the stall owner's contract.

In response to the incident, Western Railway has launched a special deep-cleaning and sanitization drive at food stalls in both Surat and Udhna railway stations as part of an ongoing catering hygiene campaign.
