Surat textile market fire destroys multiple shops in Gujarat
A massive fire broke out late Wednesday night at the Shyam Sangini Textile Market in the Saroli area of Surat, Gujarat. The blaze primarily affected the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the building. While the fire caused significant property damage, no casualties were reported.
Firefighting efforts involved over 150 personnel and more than 25 fire engines, including turntable hydraulic platforms, to combat the flames at heights of approximately 30 meters. Officials noted that the presence of synthetic materials, such as polyester and petrochemical-based textiles, caused the fire to spread rapidly and produce dense smoke.
Traders reported that approximately 17 to 18 shops on the sixth floor were completely destroyed. Firefighters had to break locks and cut through shutters to access the blaze. The fire department declared a brigade call to bring in additional fire tenders from surrounding areas to manage the intensity of the incident.
