Surat urologist arrested over alleged ₹2 crore rent default

A urologist, Dr. Subodh Ramchandra Kamble, has been arrested in Surat’s Vesu area following allegations of a massive rent default totaling approximately ₹2 crore. The arrest was made under the Gujarat Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act after a property owner, Mumbai-based diamond businessman Sanjaybhai Shah, filed a complaint.

According to the complaint, Dr. Kamble, an authorized director of Apricorp Health Private Limited, leased 7,178 square feet of commercial space in the White House building in December 2022 to operate a multispecialty hospital. While rent payments were reportedly regular until September 2023, the complainant alleges that payments ceased thereafter. The outstanding amount, including interest and GST, is estimated at ₹2,00,99,388.

The dispute escalated when the property owner sought to terminate the lease and reclaim the premises. The complainant alleges that attempts to recover the dues and possession were met with threats of false legal action under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Following a ruling by a land-grabbing committee led by the Surat collector, the Vesu police registered a criminal case and took Dr. Kamble into judicial custody.
