Surco history book unveiled at Lima International Book Fair

The municipality of Santiago de Surco presented the new hardcover volume “Santiago de Surco. La antigua huerta de Lima” on 2 August during the 30th Feria Internacional del Libro (Lima International Book Fair). The 250‑plus‑page work reconstructs the district’s evolution from its pre‑Hispanic lordship through the colonial and republican periods to the present, and is organised into five chapters covering History, Heritage, Commerce, Education and a Present Vision.

The book features a prologue by Surco mayor Carlos Bruce, testimonies from notable residents, and showcases emblematic neighbourhoods, local gastronomy, the first Peruvian Wine Festival, Holy Week celebrations, the restored historic colours of the 150‑year‑old Santiago Apostol church, and the ongoing restoration of the San Juan Grande hacienda. It was launched at the Noche de Gala Surcana, with performances by the Surco Children’s Philharmonic Orchestra and the municipal polyphonic choir. Copies were sold at stand 6 of the fair and will later be available at the Museo de Historia de Santiago de Surco.
