Surendra Singh Choudhry gains fame for cleaning Ajnar River
Surendra Singh Choudhry, a science student from Biaore in Madhya Pradesh known as Bittu Tabahi, has gained widespread attention for his solo efforts to clean the polluted Ajnar River. Starting in January, Choudhry worked largely alone, often without proper protective equipment or swimming skills, and even hid his activities from his parents to focus on the task.
The physical toll of the work included skin infections and peeling caused by contact with contaminated water. Despite these challenges and limited financial resources, Choudhry managed to purchase equipment and set up trash bins along the riverbank. His efforts gained national recognition after photos of the river's transformation went viral, earning praise from figures such as businessman Anand Mahindra and former England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen.
Following his success, Choudhry has received a job offer from the environmental organization The Ocean Cleanup. He is now looking to expand his mission across India and has asked his social media followers to suggest which state he should visit next for his clean-up efforts.
