Suresh Kumar Khanna urges expansion of insurance to rural India

Uttar Pradesh Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna has emphasized the urgent need to expand insurance coverage to rural areas and economically weaker sections. Speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Financial Inclusion-Insurance is Essential’ program during the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Khanna noted that while awareness has increased among urban and affluent populations, significant gaps remain in rural sectors.

Khanna highlighted that insurance serves as a critical tool for providing economic security to vulnerable families facing crises such as illness or accidents. He urged for increased promotion of existing central and state government insurance schemes to ensure wider benefits.

Furthermore, the Minister called upon insurance agents and companies to play a more proactive role. He stated that agents should not merely focus on selling policies but must provide comprehensive information regarding premiums, renewals, and claim processes to prevent difficulties for policyholders during emergencies. He also suggested involving local representatives and community leaders to drive awareness at the village level.
