Suresh Sallay's wife appeals to President to end detention

Manori Sallay, the wife of retired Major General Suresh Sallay, has appealed to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to prevent the extension of her husband’s detention order. The former head of military intelligence is currently held under orders from the Ministry of Defence and is receiving medical treatment at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.

Mrs. Sallay reported that the Major General’s health has severely deteriorated, noting that he developed cardiac rhythm abnormalities following a hunger strike against his prolonged detention. He has undergone an emergency cardiac procedure and had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) implanted to manage life-threatening arrhythmias.

The family is requesting that instead of returning him to the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), he be placed in remand custody under judicial supervision. They emphasized that continued specialist medical supervision is vital and warned that returning him to CID custody could pose a grave risk to his life.
