Surfer Girl releases new album ‘Midnight’
The California-based musical collective Surfer Girl has released a new full-length album titled ‘Midnight’. Led by Carter Reeves, formerly of the group Aer, the project expands on the band’s reggae foundations by incorporating elements of pop, surf rock, hip hop, ska, and dream pop.
The album features several collaborations, including Jack Pavlina on the opening track ‘Wrangler’ and Dylan Cotrone on ‘Easy Tiger’. A notable highlight is the track ‘Smoked Out’, which features rapper Wiz Khalifa and blends the band’s alt-reggae sound with contemporary hip hop.
Musically, the record moves through various moods, ranging from the upbeat energy of ‘Eavesdrop’ to more introspective and pensive tracks like ‘Lose Touch’ and ‘Hummingbird’. The album also includes a two-part sequence titled ‘Winter In New England’, transitioning from ambient indie soft rock to more energetic sounds.
