Surfers head to California for world circuit competitions
Professional surfers are heading to California for upcoming stages of the world surfing circuit. In Oceanside, parathlete Maryele Cardoso will compete in the third stage of the Association of Adaptive Surfing Professionals (AASP) circuit from September 10 to 13. Cardoso, supported by the Ondas da Superação project and Unesc, has undergone intensive training in resistance and apnea to prepare for the competition.
In Trestles, Portuguese surfers Yolanda Hopkins and Francisca Veselko face decisive rounds for the 2026 world circuit qualification. Hopkins, currently ranked 14th, faces Australian veteran Sally Fitzgibbons in the opening round. Veselko, ranked 22nd, is set to compete against Tyler Wright. These stages are critical for determining the top athletes who will advance to the final stages of the season and secure spots for the 2027 Tour.
