Surge in Young Colorectal Cancer Cases in Serbia Triggers Call for Early Screening

The University Clinical Center in Niš reports a three‑fold increase in colorectal‑cancer patients under 40 compared with two decades ago. On a weekly basis the centre operates on three to four younger patients with various colorectal conditions, including cancers. Incidence rose sharply between 2020 and 2022, doubling overall and tripling for people aged 25‑40 relative to the period before 2000.

Doctors stress that early detection is crucial. They advise anyone noticing blood in the stool or other digestive symptoms to seek medical attention promptly, regardless of age, and emphasize regular preventive examinations to curb the growing trend.
