Suriname addresses malfunctioning weighing equipment at Wijdenboschbrug
Malfunctioning weighing equipment at the Jules Wijdenboschbrug has hindered the ability to monitor heavy vehicle traffic for several years. Minister of Justice and Security Harish Monorath raised the issue in the National Assembly, noting that the lack of oversight regarding truck weights poses risks to infrastructure, traffic safety, and long-term repair costs.
Efforts to restore the equipment are underway. Parts have been ordered and are expected to arrive in Suriname within weeks. To expedite the process, officials decided to purchase replacement parts rather than flying in foreign experts. Additionally, the Ministry of Justice and Security plans to collaborate with the Ministry of Public Works to investigate optimal time slots for heavy vehicle transit to mitigate impact.
