Suriname advances emergency repair and widening of Van ’t Hogerhuysstraat
Emergency road repairs on Van ’t Hogerhuysstraat in Suriname are proceeding ahead of the scheduled completion date of 16 July. Project manager Rondey Wongsosoeparto said the work, which began more than two weeks ago, is in its final phase, with the last section of the eastern carriageway being asphalted. The emergency measures involve removing old surfacing, leveling the base and applying a new five‑centimetre asphalt layer, while additional work on the Slangenhoutstraat junction is intended to improve traffic flow.
The repairs are being carried out mainly during evenings and nights to limit disruption. At the same time, preparations are under way for a permanent reconstruction that will broaden the route between Surmac, Slangenhoutstraat and Willem Campagnestraat from a 2×2 lane road to a 2×3 lane configuration. The plan also adds an extra lane to Slangenhoutstraat and converts the existing roundabout into a traffic plaza, with coordination ongoing with utility companies and drainage works being mapped out.
