Suriname allocates SRD 25 million to support small businesses

The Surinamese government has allocated SRD 25 million to the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Fund for the current budget period. Andrew Baasaron, Minister of Economic Affairs, Entrepreneurship and Technological Innovation (EZOTI), announced that the funds are intended to provide financial support, training, and guidance to entrepreneurs in Paramaribo and various districts.

In addition to direct financing, the ministry plans to offer training programs focused on essential business skills, such as the Business Model Canvas, marketing strategies, and digital skills. These initiatives specifically target young entrepreneurs to assist them in establishing and expanding their businesses. The ministry is also working on a legislative agenda involving 44 laws aimed at improving the business environment.

To improve service delivery, the ministry is upgrading its regional offices in seven districts by acquiring vehicles, computers, and other necessary equipment. Entrepreneurs can also access other financing programs, such as the Production Credit Fund and the SURGE project, while the ministry provides coaching and mentorship to ensure resources are used effectively.
