Suriname announces Altona housing project with 2,305 plots

The Surinamese government has unveiled plans for the Altona project, a key component of the National Housing Program Suriname (NaHuSur). The initiative aims to deliver 2,305 building-ready plots through a five-phase development process.

The project includes the construction of essential infrastructure, such as three access roads, utility connections, and an adequate drainage system. Additionally, specific areas have been reserved for social and commercial facilities, including schools, shops, police stations, and health centers.

During a recent information session organized by the Presidential Commission for the Coordination of National Housing Construction and the Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning, financial institutions such as Finabank presented mortgage options, including a 7 percent interest rate. While the project promises significant residential expansion, some concerns remain regarding the lack of a detailed execution timeline, specific start and end dates, and the long-term financing of infrastructure works.
