Suriname cleaner confesses to stealing €15,000 and USD 5,000

A 40-year-old interior cleaner, identified as P. L., has confessed to stealing €15,000 and USD 5,000 from the home of a family running a heavy equipment business in Suriname.

The thefts occurred while the family was on vacation abroad, leaving an elderly relative alone in the residence. Investigators noted there were no signs of forced entry. P. L. allegedly used a key to access a room where the family kept cash, removing money from several bundles while leaving the packaging intact. The theft was discovered by the homeowner during a recount of the funds.

During police interrogation, P. L. admitted to the crime, stating that much of the money had been spent on various purchases and casino visits. Authorities seized €7,000 and USD 3,700 from the suspect. The case is currently being investigated by the Afdeling Recherche Regio Midden of the Suriname Police Force.
