Suriname companies Sail and SLM announce modernization and transition plans
Suriname American Industries Limited (Sail) is undergoing a modernization process to upgrade outdated production installations and improve financial health. Director Ifuel Alberg stated that the company is entering a growth phase focused on increasing production volume and expanding local sales and exports. While shrimp remains a core product, the company is diversifying into fish and other seafood products, targeting markets in the Caribbean, Miami, and Europe.
Separately, Surinaamse Luchtvaart Maatschappij (SLM) is undergoing a transition focused on operational stability, digitalization, and customer orientation. Director Johan Sandie noted that the airline is prioritizing safety and reliability, which may lead to necessary maintenance delays. As part of its strategic shifts, SLM will partner with Eastern Airlines on the Mid-Atlantic route starting September 27, 2026, and plans to deploy a Boeing 777-200 in SLM livery by December 2026. The airline continues to evaluate its routes and financial position to ensure long-term viability.
