Suriname: DNL proposes laws for Sovereign Wealth Fund and Local Content

The Democratic Nationalist Party (DNL) has submitted three legislative proposals to Surinamese President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons aimed at the sustainable management of the nation's natural resources. The proposals focus on establishing a Sovereign Wealth Fund, implementing Local Content regulations, and addressing Transfer Pricing.

The proposed Sovereign Wealth Fund is designed to manage revenues from oil, gas, and gold. The goal is to invest these funds sustainably to ensure financial stability and provide for future generations, reducing the country's vulnerability to international commodity market fluctuations.

The Local Content proposal seeks to mandate that foreign investors actively involve local businesses, workers, and expertise in their projects. This initiative aims to strengthen the local economy, promote knowledge transfer, and increase employment within the oil and gas sectors.
