Suriname enhances maritime logistics and port security

Suriname is implementing significant upgrades to its maritime infrastructure and security protocols. The National Port Community System (PCS), known as CENTER PCS, is beginning a phased deployment starting October 12, 2026. Funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, the platform aims to improve transport logistics and competitiveness through the digital exchange of data. The first phase involves the Maritime Single Window (MSW), a digital platform for the electronic submission of mandatory shipping and port information, ensuring compliance with IMO FAL-V treaty obligations.

Simultaneously, a renewed Port Control Unit (PCU) was officially installed at the Jules Sedney Port on October 15, 2026. Operating under the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Passenger and Cargo Control Program, the unit comprises personnel from the Suriname Police Force, Military Police, Customs, and the Directorate of National Security (DNV). This initiative is part of the National Strategic Security Plan 2026-2030, aimed at strengthening border security and combating transnational crime at the port.
