Suriname football seeks new approach to improve local scoring

Surinamese football faces structural challenges regarding the scoring capabilities of local players. Despite the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Cup victory, domestic clubs like Robinhood have struggled, recently facing early exits in the Club Shield semi-finals.

To address the lack of local scoring talent, there is a growing trend of clubs hiring foreign strikers rather than investing in domestic training. This reliance has led to inconsistent team cohesion and may undermine the motivation and development of local players. In response, the Surinaamse Voetbalbond (SVB) is tasked with implementing short-term solutions, such as training specialized striker coaches. The SVB intends for every club in the Suriname Major League (SML) to nominate a candidate for this training to improve the overall quality of the game.
