Suriname implements diplomatic finance monitoring, sends trainees to Beijing
Minister Melvin Bouva announced a new digital real‑time system to monitor income and expenditures of Suriname’s diplomatic posts. The system is intended to improve transparency after irregularities were discovered, including a case where a diplomat was required to return unaccounted funds.
On 4 August, a group of 23 Surinamese aspirant diplomats will travel to Beijing for a career‑training programme. The curriculum covers Mandarin language skills, diplomatic protocol, multilateral cooperation and negotiation techniques, reflecting the government’s push to strengthen its diplomatic capacity.
