Suriname joins CTU ICT Week 2026 in French Guiana

A Surinamese delegation, led by Minister of Transport, Communication, and Tourism Raymond Landveld and accompanied by Deputy Director of Communication Louis Alfaisie, is participating in the CTU ICT Week 2026 in Cayenne, French Guiana. The event, organized by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), runs from September 20 to 24 and includes representatives from the state-owned company N.V. Telesur.

The summit brings together ministers, policymakers, regulators, and private sector leaders to discuss the Caribbean's digital agenda. Key topics include digital resilience, inclusion, innovation, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data governance, and space technology. The gathering also serves as a regional preparation for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26) scheduled for November in Doha, Qatar.

For Suriname, digitalization is viewed as a tool to improve public service delivery and policy effectiveness. A primary focus for the nation is the digital connectivity of its interior regions. Minister Landveld emphasized that technology should serve as a means to provide better services and economic opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their location.
