Suriname Justice Minister discusses BuFaZ independence

Suriname’s Minister of Justice and Security, Harish Monorath, met with partners to discuss the transition of the Bureau for Family Law Affairs (BuFaZ) toward becoming an independent organization. The meeting included representatives from UNICEF and the Anton de Kom University of Suriname.

The first phase of the transformation process has been completed. Stakeholders are now focusing on the recovery and implementation phase, which involves updating the operational plan and ensuring established deadlines are met to avoid delays.

Minister Monorath highlighted several critical priorities for the transition, including the legal status of BuFaZ employees, salary structures, capacity building, and necessary staff training.
