Suriname launches ‘Ken je Land’ tourism development program
Suriname’s Ministry of Transport, Communication and Tourism (TCT) has launched the ‘Ken je Land’ (Know Your Country) program to stimulate national tourism and foster deeper connections between visitors and the country. Minister Raymond Landveld stated that the initiative aims to provide tourists with a profound experience of Surinamese culture and society.
Funding for the program is sourced from remaining funds of a previous World Bank study regarding the tourism value chain. The initiative will focus on several key areas, including infrastructure improvements such as building new roads to popular destinations and enhancing existing facilities.
To improve the visitor experience, the ministry is prioritizing safety, food hygiene, and better information services, including the installation of clearer road signs. Additionally, the ministry plans to promote Suriname’s diverse offerings through video content and a youth-oriented video competition titled ‘Dis’ na wi’, which encourages young people to promote their specific districts.
