Suriname launches nationwide business enforcement inspections

On 3 August, Surinamese authorities began an intensive, multi‑agency enforcement operation targeting businesses in Wanica Zuid‑Oost and across the country. The operation, part of the Krin Kondre campaign, involves inspectors from the Ministry of Public Works, the Bureau for Public Health (BOG), the fire service, the police and the environmental police. Inspectors check permits, hygiene, fire safety, waste management and compliance with environmental and safety regulations in shops, restaurants and other public venues.

Early results include the immediate closure of a sandwich shop for serious permit and hygiene violations and a written warning to another outlet with a two‑day deadline to clean and meet standards. Violations may lead to fines, revocation of permits or further administrative action. District Commissioner Ernesto Muller emphasized that the checks aim to improve public health and safety, while Anwar Moenne, acting director of the Public Green and Waste Management Directorate, urged entrepreneurs to keep premises clean and maintain proper waste containers.
