Suriname Minister denies exam errors amid reports of conflicting results

Minister Dirk Currie has rejected allegations of serious errors made by the examination commission following reports of significant confusion regarding student results in Suriname. During a session in the National Assembly, Member of Parliament Ameerani Jarbandhan highlighted cases where students were initially told they had passed, only to be informed two days later that they had failed.

Jarbandhan also raised concerns that some students may have received incorrect examination papers and noted that correspondence from concerned parents to the ministry has reportedly gone unanswered. These discrepancies have caused uncertainty for students regarding their future education and career planning.

Minister Currie denied that the commission made essential errors and requested that specific, written cases be submitted for formal investigation. He noted that the current examination bureau system dates back to 1980 and stated that the ministry is currently in discussions with companies to modernize the system, subject to administrative and accounting procedures.
