Suriname Minister Stephen Tsang probes sabotage at public works ministry
Minister Stephen Tsang of the Surinamese Ministry of Public Works and Spatial Planning (OWRO) confirmed that an investigation into possible sabotage at the ministry is ongoing. Recent incidents such as power outages, vandalism and damage to ministry assets have prompted suspicions of deliberate sabotage. Security cameras have been installed at key sites and additional safeguards are being applied while investigators await evidence before drawing conclusions.
Separately, Tsang expressed disappointment that construction firm Baitali NV has lodged an appeal against a cantonal court ruling that rejected its claims over the Van ’t Hogerhuysstraat infrastructure project. The court had barred Baitali from actions that could hinder the project's progress. Tsang noted the project will continue and that the government will pursue further steps while the appeal proceeds.
Both matters remain under review, with no definitive outcomes announced.
