Suriname Ministry of Defense begins Ayoko Barracks renovation

The Surinamese Ministry of Defense has initiated the phased renovation of the Ayoko Barracks at Zanderij. The facility, a critical site for the National Army where Elementary General Training (EAO) and Continued General Training (VAO) are conducted, has suffered from years of deferred maintenance.

Minister Uraiqit Ramsaran and Brigadier General Mitchel Labadie oversaw the delivery of materials to begin the first phase of repairs. To manage limited financial resources, the ministry is utilizing existing supplies from its warehouses to prioritize urgent repairs. The renovation focuses on restoring essential infrastructure, including dormitories, classrooms, and sanitary facilities, to improve the living and training conditions for new recruits.
