Suriname mother and two children rescued after kidnapping

Police in Paramaribo rescued a mother and her two minor children who had been forcibly taken from their apartment in Pontbuiten. The victims were transported in a blue vehicle with foreign plates and held overnight at a location in Menkendam. Four suspects – J. L. (49), R. M. (41), D. P. (48) and B. V. (45) – were arrested after the police located the car and secured the vehicle. The suspects demanded a ransom of €6,000, 2,000 SRD and the victim’s bank card, and threatened to release nude footage of the mother online if payment was not made. B. V. brandished a knife and threatened the woman with death, while J. L. impersonated a police officer and forced the mother to remove her clothing for filming. The four were placed in custody and transferred to the Regional Middle Police for further investigation of kidnapping, extortion and serious threats.
