Suriname police arrest two more suspects in mercury theft investigation

The Suriname Police Force (KPS) has arrested two additional suspects in an ongoing investigation into the theft of eleven cylinders of mercury from the Geyersvlijt police station. The new detainees include an inspector, J. B., from the Fraud Department, who was responsible for managing the warehouse and the container where the mercury was stored. The second suspect, M. S., is suspected of involvement in the illegal trade of mercury and firearms.

With these latest arrests, the total number of suspects in custody has risen to nine. Among those arrested are four police officers, including the aforementioned inspector and members of the Paramaribo Regional Assistance Team and the Fraud Department. The investigation is being conducted by the Capital Crimes Department to determine the full extent of the network and the involvement of various individuals in these illegal activities.
