Suriname promotes 250+ police officers with direct promotion orders
On 31 July 2026, more than 250 members of the Korps Politie Suriname (KPS) were promoted in a regular ceremony. For the first time in years, the promotion orders were handed out directly, a change described by Justice and Police Minister Harish Monorath as a breakthrough in the ministry’s administrative service and a step toward making the practice standard across all police forces.
The largest group, about 235 officers, advanced to the rank of police agent third class. The event featured music from the Police Combo. Police Union head Revelino Eijk called each promotion a legal right, while corps chief Melvin Pinas said the new ranks bring greater responsibility and leadership. The minister emphasized that investing in personnel strengthens public safety in Suriname.
