Suriname proposes ecosystem management framework for G-Zero Alliance
During the G-Zero Forum in New York, Suriname presented several proposals to the G-Zero Alliance aimed at the collective protection and sustainable management of ecosystems and natural carbon stocks. Represented by President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, the alliance includes Suriname, Bhutan, Madagascar, and Panama.
The proposals focus on creating a ‘G-Zero Needs and Support Framework’ to identify technical, financial, and institutional priorities. Suriname also advocated for making access to climate and nature financing a central priority by developing a joint pipeline of investment-ready projects involving development banks, climate funds, and the private sector.
Additionally, the initiative seeks to improve the measurement of ecosystem value through enhanced monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) systems, better data, and ‘Natural Capital Accounting’. The goal is to establish a structural mechanism for technical cooperation and knowledge exchange among the four member nations.
