Suriname explores economic ties with Vietnam and celebrates Spanish diplomacy

Suriname is advancing multiple international partnerships, focusing on economic expansion with Vietnam and celebrating long-standing diplomatic ties with Spain.

During a farewell visit to President Jennifer Simons, the non-resident Vietnamese Ambassador Bùi Văn Nghị discussed strengthening economic trade. Vietnam expressed interest in helping Suriname become a regional rice export hub by sharing expertise in production and processing. Further cooperation is proposed in fisheries, aquaculture, and the energy sector, specifically through potential collaboration between Petrovietnam and Staatsolie on offshore exploration and infrastructure like pipelines and floating storage.

Separately, Suriname and Spain marked 50 years of diplomatic relations with a musical tribute at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter and Paul in Paramaribo. Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Cooperation in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy, the event featured performances by renowned Spanish classical guitarist Armando Orbón alongside Surinamese guitarists D’Angelo Cabenda and Guillaume Fredison, as well as the Music & ME Choir.
