During the US–Caribbean Dialogue in Washington D.C. on October 15, 2026, Surinamese Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Cooperation Melvin Bouva called for increased American investment and strengthened cooperation in economic, energy, and regional security sectors.

He specifically advocated for U.S. investment in energy, agriculture, and infrastructure to support Suriname’s economic transformation.
Regarding security, the Minister emphasized the need for joint efforts to combat transnational crime, maritime security, and cybersecurity.
