Suriname solar energy plants provide 24-hour power to 36 villages

The Ministry of Natural Resources in Suriname has launched a working visit to the Upper Suriname region to inspect solar energy plants and consult with staff. Three specific clusters—Botopasi, Dawme, and Kajana—provide 24-hour electricity to 36 villages.

As the energy supply becomes more complex, the responsibilities of station employees have shifted from small-scale generator maintenance to structural technical upkeep. Energy Director Valerie Lalji noted that while some staff members have received training for these expanded roles, others are still awaiting instruction.

The ministry is currently assessing the needs of 60 employees to improve communication, technical guidance, and the procurement of necessary materials and protective equipment to ensure safe and effective operations.
