Suriname targets economic growth and digital government reform

Suriname is pursuing economic growth and administrative modernization through investment initiatives and digital transformation. At a recent networking event organized by Stichting DIN and Sur Estate Development, stakeholders discussed strategies to attract investors and address housing shortages. While the government aims to leverage the capital and expertise of the Surinamese diaspora, experts noted that structural improvements in regulation, transparency, land security, and infrastructure are essential to build long-term investor confidence.

Simultaneously, the Surinamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation (BIS) has launched ‘BIS Online,’ an internally developed digital system for processing and tracking dossiers. This initiative marks a step toward a digital government and has avoided significant external licensing costs. However, officials highlighted the need for central coordination to prevent fragmentation, ensuring that different ministries' digital systems can integrate effectively to avoid redundant data entry for citizens.
